Subtly captivating, visually impressive, and dreamy - this A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Up/Down is designed to captivate your heart, mind, and onlookers.
Why we love it
Along with the more complex Grand Complication, A. Lange & Sohne introduced the elegant and refined 1815 Up/Down at the 2013 SIHH. It is a watch deeply rooted in the maison's heritage and watchmaking legacy. The 1815 Up/Down's focal point is the power reserve indicator, which also explains its nomenclature. But the addition of this practical complication implies more than just an ergonomic character. In 1879, A. Lange & Sohne attained a patent for the power reserve indicator function in a pocket watch. Hence, this contemporary model with a power reserve indicator similar to the original design is a beautiful nod to the brand and its horological accomplishments.
For this 1815 Up/Down 234.032, A. Lange & Sohne employs a silver dial and carefully sets the sub-dials that look familiar to the sub-dials on an 1815 Chronograph. On this reference, the counter sitting at four o'clock indicates running seconds, and the eight o'clock register shows the watch's generous power autonomy of 72 hours. Hands on the main dial as well as the sub-dials are drenched in a peculiar shade of blue that stands out just the right amount. Equally considered are the Arabic numeral hour makers that forward a more neo-vintage vibe. We're sure the markings on the power reserve indicator must be imploring attention; Auf denotes full power, while AB means the watch needs to be wound.
The rose gold construction shows classic Lange craftsmanship, flaunting high versatility at 39mm and remaining surprisingly thin at only 8.7mm. The richly polished surfaces highlight the smooth round profile of the case and the slender form of the lugs. The sapphire crystal caseback displays the manual-wound calibre L051.2. The movement is composed of 245 parts and brings the signature 3/4 plate architecture. Additionally, the exceptional hand engravings and the spectacular finish on the calibre are details to write home about.
Please note this pre-owned A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Up/Down 234.032 shows visible nicks on the case and clasp. Its leather strap bears signs of use.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
