Don't take this Code 11.59 for a shrinking violet because of its modest look and elegant appeal; it's a bombshell with unique construction and excellent movement.
Why we love it
The maison answered the long-standing request for a contemporary Audemars Piguet by introducing Code 11.59 in 2019. It distinguished itself by adopting a unique approach to design, an approach that was meticulous and inventive, to say the least. Although it did not evoke a knee-jerk reaction upon its introduction, the 2021 and 2023 updates finally fetched the acknowledgement this watch deserved from the beginning.
This reference 26393NB.OO.A002KB.01 is the 2021 model, and once you teardown the details of this timepiece, you'll realise that the brand has really reinvented the wheel with Code 11.59. We'll start with the case - a sophisticated piece of engineering. Crafted from white gold in a 41mm size, the circular case has a notable 12.6mm height putting its octagonal mid case on full display. While the original model was constructed comprehensively in gold, in 2021, the house refined the watch by rendering the case middle in ceramic, thus creating a unique juxtaposition of shapes and materials. The composition of the bezel and lugs is equally singular. The lugs come attached to the slender bezel instead of being integrated into the case, which makes them look suspended or floating.
A similar sense of craftsmanship extends to the sapphire crystal glass, which has been domed from two different angles to forward enhanced legibility and readability. It sits on top of a smoked grey dial, detailed with a vertically brushed finish. The white gold hands perfectly match the hour markers, while the textured chronograph counters create an appealing contrast on the dial. They are arranged horizontally, accommodating the date window neatly between four and five o'clock. The tachymeter scale on the inner bezel blends perfectly with the design.
Powering this Code 11.59 is calibre 4401, a self-winding mechanical movement with an integrated chronograph including a column wheel mechanism with a vertical clutch and a flyback function. It also allows the power autonomy of 70 hours. All the delicate finishing and the skeletonised rose gold oscillating weight can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.
Please note this Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 shows scuffs on the bezel, lugs, case, and caseback. Also, its strap is visibly soiled and the clasp bears minor scratches.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
