A timeless masterpiece of craftsmanship, the Royal Oak's classic beauty celebrates 50 years of innovation.
Why we love it
Introduced in 1972, The Royal Oak was revolutionary upon its release, marking a significant departure from traditional watch designs. Its unconventional octagonal bezel, secured with eight screws, and integrated bracelet were unprecedented at the time, challenging the norms of luxury watch aesthetics. This design was the brainchild of Gérald Genta, who conceptualised a watch that combined durability with elegance. This 37mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, "50th Anniversary" edition, exemplifies the evolution of this classic design. The case merges stainless steel with 18-carat pink gold, reflecting a sophisticated blend of materials that underscores the watch’s luxury status. The silver-toned “Grande Tapisserie” dial, featuring a textured pattern, enhances both the visual appeal and functionality of the timepiece. This pattern provides a distinctive backdrop for the pink gold hour markers and the hands are coated with luminescent material for improved legibility.
At the heart of this model is the calibre 5900, a self-winding movement that showcases Audemars Piguet's commitment to technical excellence. This new movement, introduced to mark the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak, features a specially designed oscillating weight in rhodium-toned pink gold. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, ensuring reliable performance and precision.
The bracelet of the Royal Oak maintains its hallmark design with a stainless steel structure interspersed with pink gold links, secured by an AP folding clasp. This combination of materials and design elements not only reinforces the watch’s robustness but also enhances its visual allure.
This Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak 15550SR.OO.1356SR.01 has scratches on the case and the caseback. There are scuffs on the bracelet and the clasp of the watch too.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
