Audemars Piguet celebrates its partnership with the sailing team Alinghi with this impressive regatta iteration of the iconic Royal Oak Offshore.
Why we love it
During the early 2000s, Audemars Piguet partnered with Alinghi. The partnership that lasted a few years resulted in some fantastic timepieces. One among them, this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Polaris boldly celebrates the maison's association with this sailing team from Switzerland.
Introduced in 2005 as a limited edition of 2000 pieces, this watch retains the recognisable personality of the iconic Royal Oak Offshore with elements such as the octagonal bezel, ergonomically integrated rubber strap, and the Grande Tapisserie pattern on the dial. However, it is also replete with details that perfectly fall in the wheelhouse of Alinghi fans. It starts right at the dial where the Alinghi logo sits most conspicuously at nine o'clock, marking the 20-minute chronograph sub-dial. There is a small seconds sub-dial at three and an unconventional six-hour register at six.
Now, let’s get to the other features that make this Royal Oak Offshore a true regatta watch. The inner rotating bezel, controlled by the screw-down crown at 10, works both as a compass and a conventional dive bezel with direction markers and a 60-minute scale, respectively. Further, perhaps the most interesting detail on the dial is the 10-minute scale placed between the inner bezel and the smooth hour track. It’s a Regatta countdown timer that highlights the 10-minute countdown to begin the race. Impressive attention to detail — this scale goes red in the final one minute of the countdown around noon on the dial to facilitate easy reading for the racer.
Not so common at the time in Royal Oak Offshores, this Alinghi Polaris functions on a flyback chronograph mechanism with a vertical clutch. It is powered by the automatic calibre 896 with a 38-hour power reserve, stowed safely inside the solid caseback, which also carries beautiful nautical engravings.
This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Polaris Limited Edition is in overall great condition with a few light nicks on the caseback and clasp. Also, the rubber strap is in satisfactory form.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
