Passion, audacity, and perfection. This is what Baume & Mercier Clifton Club has in common with the legendary Burt Munro.
Why we love it
Continuously pushing boundaries with unique designs and inspiring collaborations, Baume & Mercier Clifton Club is a series many patrons look forward to. Therefore, when the Maison announced a collaboration with America's popular motorcycle brand – Indian Motorcycle – it created an instant buzz.
Following the announcement, a limited-edition chronograph was released in 2017 dedicated to Burt Munro. He was a motorcycle racer who set a land speed record on his modified 1920 Indian Scout across the Bonneville in 1967. It was an edition of 1967 timepieces commemorating the year in which the record was set.
The watch, we have to admit, is visually striking with a playful, sporty feel. The design cues and elements on it very eloquently embody the passion and inspiring legacy of Burt Munro. We’ll start with the detail that garners attention at the very first glance – the bright yellow seconds subdial signed with the number 35 – Munro’s lucky number. Residing alongside this highlighting feature are two more subdials at 12 and 6 o’clock, a date window again at 6, and the brand label at 3. The hour indexes and the hands are rhodium-plated with Superluminova finish. However, the seconds chronograph hand is red and tipped with an italicised ‘I’ counterweight referencing the “I” in the Indian Motorcycle logo.
The allusions don’t end just yet. The specially marked 184 graduation on the black tachymeter bezel nods to Munro’s record, and the red vermillion hue of the calfskin straps is the colour commonly used in Indian motorcycles. The solid case back comes engraved with the company’s logo and its year of foundation.
Complete with an automatic calibre Valjoux 7750 that provides a 48-hour power reserve, this Baume & Mercier Clifton Club effectively captures the daring spirit of Burt Munro.
This limited edition Baume & Mercier Clifton Club MOA10404 is in very good condition with a well-retained 44mm case which is water-resistant up to 50 metres. Please note that the straps show signs of use and are a little soiled.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
