The art of watchmaking sees new heights with Breguet Type XXII. It's a high-performance chronograph with an unprecedented frequency rate of whopping 72,000 beats per hour.
Why we love it
First introduced in 2010, the Type XXII 3880ST is an aspirational watch for all who revere Breguet, its celebrated legacy, and its spirit of innovation. It features a marvellous feat with a self-winding movement that beats at 72,000 vibrations per hour, surpassing Zenith's renowned El Primero with a 36,000bph frequency. It's a great leap forward. As a result, the watch can measure - twice the precision as the brand puts it. The seconds hand that generally takes one complete round of the dial in 60 seconds does so in just 30 seconds on this watch, letting you measure up to 1/20th of a second. The movement empowering such incredible performance is Breguet calibre 589 F with a silicon escapement and balance spring. These silicon parts are the real force behind the watch's ability to beat at such high speed.
The movement further powers a bevvy of watchmaking functions, which include date, chronograph, and GMT. The flyback chronograph function uses two hands in lieu of sub-dials. There is a central white hand with a red arrow tip to read minutes in 1/2-minute increments and a red hand to mark seconds. A sub-counter with a scale of 30 sits at nine o'clock, indicating continuous seconds for the main time. The red and white hash marks on the periphery let you read 1/10th of a second. Moving to the GMT function for which Breguet has added two sub-registers on the dial. While the 12-hour counter at six o'clock facilitates the second time zone function, the 24-hour sub-dial at three works as an AM-PM indicator.
In terms of aesthetics, Type XXII is an exercise in classic watchmaking craftsmanship. The 44mm case is beautifully rendered in steel with a bidirectional rotating bezel. The use of red and white hues on the watch, from the dial to the strap and even on the flyback chronograph pusher, is quite impressive. The caseback with a sapphire crystal aperture narrates a similar tale. It lets you peek at the escapement and shows glimpses of the uniquely-designed oscillating weight with a grill-like red-hued insert.
Please note this Breguet Type XXII flyback chronograph 3880ST/H2/SX0 bears visible scratches on the case, bezel, and caseback. Also, the bracelet and clasp show noticeable scuffs.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
