Innovation? Check. Style? Check. Comfort? Check. Cle De Cartier is a solid timepiece that casts an unmissable presence on the wrist.
Why we love it
Unique casework is one of the outstanding elements that has come to define the timepieces by Cartier. From Tank to Ballon Bleu, distinctive case shapes have played lodestones of Cartier watches since the beginning. And upholding the notion was the house's 2015 release - a new collection called Cle De Cartier. While retaining the classic elegance and timeless appeal of the maison, the watch mystifies in a new form with a new crown and a new movement.
Cartier excels in its design and aesthetics, clearly evident in this Cle De Cartier reference W2CL0003. A geometric tonneau shape comes alive in stainless steel, surrounding a slender round bezel and silver dial. The curvaceous profile is sensuous and simultaneously nods to the popular 70s watch aesthetics. It settles most beautifully on the wrist with its 35mm size and bracelet, cast in steel and rose gold.
But the element that's running point on this watch is the newly designed crown like nothing we've seen before on Cartier or any other watch. Perhaps it is the crown's charming singularity that maison named the collection after this detail - Cle is key in French. Taken after the keys used on antique clocks and pocket watches, the crown is in a square form with the signature blue sapphire on the top. It doesn't rotate freely in a normal position but moves only to be aligned horizontally and vertically. However, it can be operated like a run-of-the-mill crown for setting the date and time.
The dial is where the trademark Cartier beauty shines with the recognisable Arabic numeral markers, sword-shaped hands, and the centre guilloche hands. It is very cleanly executed and features a date aperture at six o'clock. One of the reasons why Cle De Cartier became such a hit was because the maison did not pull any punches with it. While it brought a fresh design to the table, it also brought a brand-new movement for the ones interested in what's underneath. Calibre 1847 MC is a modestly finished in-house automatic movement that beats at 28,800bph and promises a running autonomy of 48 hours.
This Cle De Cartier shows minor scuffs on the caseback, bracelet, and clasp. Yet, the overall appeal of this watch is fairly good.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
