Drive de Cartier exudes a fierce spirit demonstrated well by its characterful dial teeming with sensible complications and its unique cushion case.
Why we love it
At the 2016 SIHH, Cartier played the maximalist card, offering a characterful timepiece which, while rooted in the maison’s classics, was stripped of the typical Cartier modesty in favour of a more graphic aesthetic. The watch — Drive de Cartier — was aimed at the male audience and flaunting the house’s mechanical prowess in high complications.
The steel case of reference WSNM0016 clocks in at 40mm in diameter. It's a rather versatile size, having a classic profile that looks elegant and appropriate on multiple wrists. Speaking of elegance, the case is executed in a shape novel to Cartier; the cushion form shows a dynamic personality with a polished finish throughout. The size with the distinctive shape and curved lugs give the watch a cosmopolitan sensibility.
The silver dial is not just teeming with complications but textures as well that add impressive depth and complexity. The blue hands and Roman numeral hour markers have been consistent with the brand’s DNA. In terms of utility, four practical complications have been executed quite interestingly and legibly on the dial. A large date window finds pride of place at noon, while the date-night indicator sits in close proximity with the small seconds counter at six. This dressy Drive de Cartier is also a travel watch with a second time zone function displayed on a retrograde counter at 10 o’clock.
All these complications are powered by the self-winding mechanical movement — 1904 FU MC. It’s a workhorse calibre also found in GMT versions of Rotonde de Cartier models. It promises a power reserve of 48 hours.
This Drive de Cartier WSNM0016 shows a good pre-owned condition, with minor scuffs on the caseback and buckle. The leather strap is in satisfactory form.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
