This iconic Santos de Cartier is reaffirming its classic elegance and charm with a contemporary style and refined nuances.
Why we love it
Cartier's ability to produce effortlessly elegant timepieces has always melted our hearts, as it did again with the revived Santos de Cartier. The watch was relaunched in 2018 in two sizes with an elevated and much-improved design sensibility, and its medium-sized iteration that we have here feels like a definite standout.
While we can concede that mid-size watches are often deemed more feminine, it's reassuring that this reference commands notable and robust visibility on the wrist. The size is 35.1mm with a thickness of 8.83mm, making it conspicuous but in a subtle fashion.
We have to hand it over to Cartier for not paying lip service to the cause of refinement in the updated Santos de Cartier but making meaningful improvements, which rendered the watch quite exceptional. We'll begin with how this timepiece carries a rather sinuous form with smoother curves and shapely lugs extending to the case bands and integrating with the crown guards. The bezel is also different. It's not your usual square but has adopted a more fluid silhouette, extending at the top and bottom to become one with the bracelet. Speaking of the bracelet, it still carries the slender rectangular links punctuated by the screws, which interestingly are aligned stochastically.
The dial on this Santos is a classic Cartier with Roman numeral hour markers, the railroad inner track, and sword-shaped blue hands. It is powered by calibre 1847 MC, an in-house movement with 23 jewels, beating at 28,800bph, and offers a 42-hour power reserve.
Except for light scratches on the bracelet and clasp, this Santos de Cartier WSSA0029 shows excellent pre-owned condition.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
