This Laureato Absolute is a lesson by Girard-Perragaux in re-iterating icons. With a beguiling dial and recognisable details, Absolute delivers a high-octane essence of classic watchmaking.
Why we love it
Girard-Perregaux's Laureato has been a legitimate force of watchmaking and style since its introduction in 1975. For years, the watch has retained its innate elegance and classic appeal. Then in 2019, the maison shook up the collection with a curious addition in the form of Laureato Absolute. When you look at the Absolute, you know it's an iteration of the Laureato with a recognisable undertone, yet it stands on its own with a personality that keeps growing on you.
The watch shares a number of its features with the original Laureato. But, the case has increased to a notable 44mm and is rendered in PVD-treated titanium for a bolder vibe. Another element that stands altered is the caseback. Laureato Absolute let go of the exhibition caseback in favour of a closed one engraved with the brand name and a bold collection signature at the centre. Now, while a few things have changed, the most recognisable details stay put, like the octagonal bezel, also in titanium for this reference. Lastly, the juxtaposition of polished and brushed finishes on the case creates an appealing vista.
One of the reasons why Laureato Absolute comes across as so singular is because the modifications made here are subtle but distinguishing. The dial forgoes the Clous de Paris pattern and instead comes adorned with a beguiling blue hue with a black gradient look. It flaunts a sunray finish with luminous sections on the markers, a set of luminous hands, a bright red seconds hand for some extra character, and a date window at six o'clock.
Powering this watch is the self-winding calibre GP03300-1060 with a 28,800bph frequency and 46 hours of power reserve. Although not visible through the back, the GP name ensures the finest craftsmanship in the construction of the movement with elegant finishes and precise assembly.
This Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute boasts an overall very good pre-owned condition with no scratches and a firm leather strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
