A GMT watch so cool and comfortable you'll be wearing it every day; the Spring Drive movement powering it further warrants the same.
Why we love it
This SBGE253G is a handsome-looking GMT watch that brings all the mechanical goodness of Grand Seiko with a generous amount of modernity and versatility. It came down the pike in 2020 and garnered the most attention for its compact case profile. The downsized 40mm dimension instantly made the watch more wearable than the 44mm GMT watches within the maison's arsenal and subsequently more desirable.
The classic Grand Seiko sensibility is reinforced on the case via the use of brushed and signature Zaratsu finishes, the unique positioning of the crown at four, and a balanced, sporty look that promises a perfect transition on the wrist. The non-rotating bezel maximises aesthetics and function in ceramic, adorned in a black shade carrying an engraved 24-hour scale. The colour of the bezel is in harmony with the dial for a streamlined visage.
Looking at the essentials, the dial is furnished with Lumibrite-filled hour indexes and hands for an elevated nighttime reading and a date window at four. The two-tone inner flange carrying another 24-hour scale roots the watch in the precision GMT genre alongside the contrasting red arrow-tipped GMT hand. Sitting close to the eight and nine o'clock markers is the power reserve indicator. Most impressive in this familiar Grand Seiko dial is the tasteful use of contrasting red, a small, almost frivolous detail that adds much character to the otherwise modest dial design.
The movement is always the lodestone of a Grand Seiko watch; so is the case with this SBGE253G. Powered by the maison's hybrid Spring Drive movement calibre 9R66, this watch facilitates a power reserve of 72 hours. The movement is safe inside the closed caseback, which also ensures the timepiece's 200-metre water resistance capability.
Except for some scratches on the sapphire crystal glass, this Grand Seiko SBGE253G boasts a very good pre-owned condition.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
