This IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Expedition Charles Darwin shows off its Darwin inspiration most clearly on the case through the use of bronze and the striking portrait on the caseback.
Why we love it
When it comes to nature conservation, particularly the flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands, few names carry the same cache as the world-renowned naturalist Charles Darwin. For more than 60 years, the Charles Darwin Foundation has been the protector of the Galapagos' unique natural beauty and sea environment. One of the 2014 updates of the IWC Aquatimer spawned an elegant horological celebration of Charles Darwin's spirit of discovery. The IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Expedition Charles Darwin is the first IWC watch with a bronze case. The use of bronze is a tribute to the ship HMS Beagle, which carried Darwin to the Galapagos Islands for his expedition.
The 44mm bronze case is characteristic of the Aquatimer aesthetics, preserving the line's masculine, robust character. It is constructed practically with rubber-detailed chronograph pushers and crowns. Also, it is held by a textured rubber strap with a newly developed quick-release system. Another significant and rather functional element that has been refreshingly added to this reference is the ratcheted bezel. While the bezel on the Aqauatimer has been quite functional per se with its SafeDive system of external and internal bezels, IWC takes ergonomics a step further by rendering it in a ratcheted style for easy manoeuvring in this model. The house finishes the case with a solid caseback with an impressive portrait of Charles Darwin.
The dial is highly luminous and legible with a bi-compax chronograph and elegant touches of bronze. It is powered by IWC-manufactured movement calibre 89365 that beats at 28,800bph and provides a power reserve of 68 hours.
Rendered in bronze, this IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition Expedition Charles Darwin IW379503 carries a beautiful patina that gives it a unique character. Please note this men's watch promises very good pre-owned condition, except for some noticeable marks on the caseback.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
