With a stealthy black look and impressive nuances, this IWC Ingenieur AMG Black Series hands-down is a real stunner.
Why we love it
IWC had a long-standing relationship with Mercedes-AMG, going all the way back to 2005 when the Ingenieur collection was relaunched with reference 3227. Since then, the line — dedicated to the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team — has expanded to include a number of variations, much like this Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic, introduced in 2013. This notably large 46mm watch unsurprisingly oozes a sporty-chic vibe. The crowning feature of the timepiece is the ceramic construction that gives it a cool look, in addition to making it scratch-resistant and therefore, more durable.
IWC keeps the dial sternly monochrome, with the black minute and hour chapter rings accented by contrasting markers. Even the rest of the dial furniture — hands, date aperture, and the signature script — follow the same colour scheme – white over black. In conclusion, the dial delivers a more distinctive and stealthy look that adds a unique character to the overall watch aesthetic.
The caseback is exhibition-style and shows the automatic calibre 80110, an IWC-manufactured movement with a 44-hour power reserve. The movement is a treat to the eyes with a black-coated rotor, Geneva stripping, and perlage pattern. Although watches being made in association with racing teams is not new, this IWC Ingenieur feels quite refreshing.
This pre-owned IWC watch shows some visible scratches on the case, caseback, and buckle. However, overall the watch looks good in condition and comes paired with a robust rubber strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
