This Chronograph Edition allows us to perceive the distinctive Ingenieur outside of the Gerald Genta design sensibility, and in all honesty, we love it!
Why we love it
In 2016, IWC introduced a trio of limited-edition Ingenieur watches that brought forth a refreshing spin on the collection’s aesthetics. To everyone’s surprise, these watches were not an iteration of the Gerald Genta design sensibility that had informed the collection’s form since its inception but were inspired by the Ingenieur reference 666 from 1955. These were elegant, modern watches suffused with vintage appeal.
One of the three models, the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Edition W 125 borrows its name and design cues from the the Mercedes-Benz W 125 Silver Arrow. It measures 42.0mm by 15.2mm and is lightweight with a titanium case and bracelet. Swathes of brushed and polished finishes define the case, bezel, and lugs, pulling off a luxurious visage.
The dial is silver after the colour of the Silver Arrow with luminous hour indexes and hands, a date window at three o’clock, and a tachymeter scale on the rim. The execution of the vertically-placed sub-counters is highly detailed. They’re slightly recessed and have a circular ribbed pattern at the centre. Also, the touches of red on these chronograph registers add some extra flair.
The watch is powered by calibre 69370, from a newly-developed family of movement 69000. It is self-winding with a column wheel mechanism and promises a power reserve of 46 hours. The finishing is excellent with Côtes de Genève and circular perlage pattern and can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.
This IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Edition W 125 IW380701 comes in very good pre-owned condition, featuring no signs of use and a robust leather strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
