The celebrated Top Gun Edition of the IWC star Big Pilot's Watch gets a contemporary makeover with this Mojave Desert featuring an aesthetically pleasing and understated colour palette.
Why we love it
For the digital edition of Watches & Wonders 2021, IWC released its Big Pilot's in unique sand-coloured ceramic cases. Although now we've seen the watch in green and white ceramic cases, in 2021, it was the first time IWC used coloured ceramic on a Big Pilot's watch. This distinctive and quite appealing colour palette called - Mojave Desert - looked to the flight suits of Navy pilots and the desert around the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake for inspiration. Our verdict? This Big Pilot's Watch Top Gun Edition -Mojave Desert - is an elegant-looking performance instrument with immense street cred.
This IWC doesn't require much effort to look like a tool watch that means business, with the scratch-resistant ceramic case having a fine matte finish. The understated colour palette, however, screams quiet luxury and induces a sense of refined style, while the rubber strap layered with fabric balances form with function. Also, with the addition of the brown dial high in luminescence, the watch further plays on a minimalist charm without losing its ergonomic character.
46mm is a great option for broader wrists, and the lightweight ceramic ensures the size doesn't feel bulky. The automatic calibre 52110 comes with an upgraded bidirectional Pellaton winding system and a frequency of 28,800bph. It comes with two barrels that provide a whopping power reserve of seven days, displayed on the dial at three o'clock along with the date window at six.
Purchased in 2022, this IWC Big Pilot's Watch Top Gun Edition - Mojave Desert - IW506003 shows fair pre-owned condition. It features no scratches and a well-maintained strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
