This Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme, kitted with world time and an alarm, is a powerful timepiece with a cause.
Why we love it
This Master Compressor Extreme from Jaeger-LeCoultre is a highly functional luxury timepiece that takes on a higher purpose by supporting UNESCO in preserving marine sites. In partnership with the International Herald Tribune under the programme — Tides of Time, Jaeger-LeCoultre is contributing to protecting 46 marine sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This W-Alarm men’s watch Q177847T is a limited edition piece released at SIHH 2009, designed to support this cause.
It features a lightweight titanium case, measuring 46.3mm wide by 16.7mm thick. Full of valuable complications, this is a powerful-looking, bold-wearing watch with an engraved caseback. To ensure the 100m water resistance, this watch comes equipped with a unique mechanism that does not let you pull the crown out unless the white arrow markers are visible on the top. Additionally, this system allows to firmly grasp the crown with wet hands or while wearing gloves.
Despite being filled heavily with functions, the dial does not compromise legibility. It neatly carries a scale of 24 time zones on the outer rim. Interestingly, three cities on the scale are replaced by three natural sites — Scandola in France, Galapagos in Ecuador and Tubbataha in the Philippines — registered on the World Heritage List. This scale is followed by a 24-hour ring adorned in white and blue hues for day-night indication. The world time can be set using the crown at 10 o’clock. The watch also comes with one of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s characteristic complications — the alarm. Here, it is displayed at nine o’clock via twin semicircular apertures. While it can be set easily using the crown at two, it can be started or stopped with the pusher at 10. Luminous hour indexes and hands and the date window at three bring the dial to completion.
Apart from the ergonomic design, which also includes the detachable strap, the watch is highly sophisticated in terms of mechanism. Automatic JLC calibre 912 allows the various functions to work effortlessly. Beating at 28,800 bph, this reliable movement ensures a power reserve of 45 hours. In addition, the maison has gone an extra mile to ensure the sweet alarm tone is audible easily despite the substantial case. Unlike the earlier Memovox alarm watches, the gong here runs around the circumference of the movement instead of being attached to the caseback.
This limited edition Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Q177847T shows light scratches on the sapphire crystal glass and minor signs of use on the strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
