If we had to mark the time when Montblanc properly entered the luxury watchmaking game, it would certainly be the release of this Heritage Chronometrie Quantieme Complet Vasco da Gama in 2016. It brings serious complications into a classic design and carries an interesting heritage that tributes to the great Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, his epic voyage of 1498, and subsequently India.
This Vasco da Gama is a thoroughly modern watch featuring an understated dial that harmonises beautifully with the elegantly round stainless steel case, measuring a versatile 40mm. The sophisticated personality of the timepiece also comes out with its slim profile and complementing leather strap.

Its silvery white dial sports a minimalist look, with additional depth served by the fabulous moon phase display at six. This blue-hued sub-dial carries the impression of the Southern Cross constellation that had aided Da Gama in reaching and discovering India. This bright blue sub-dial against the modest backdrop gives the dial the ideal visual elevation. Elsewhere, Montblanc has ensured perfect symmetry, adding the day and month apertures below 12 and the date scale on the outer flange.
The movement powering the watch is the calibre MB 29.16. It is based on a Sellita movement that uses the Dubois Depraz module for the full calendar complication. This precise self-winding movement has undergone the Montblanc Laboratory Test 500 Hour and promises a power reserve of 42 hours.
