A 70s icon that entered contemporary watchmaking with even more merits, Ploprof is a rare gem from the Omega's highly versatile treasure trove.
Why we love it
Omega is not one for eccentricities. What it is highly known for is the bold mechanism and strength that defines its functional sports watches. But Ploprof is one of those rare examples where Omega brings its signature technical brilliance in a wild form. As unique as weird, the Omega Ploprof was released in 1971 with an odd-looking asymmetric case that carried a bold red button, an integrated crown, and a humungous height. It was a design that instantly held the gaze. But beyond the eccentricity, it was an excellent 600m water-resistant dive watch that could remain underwater for prolonged periods of time. Needless to say, the watch was hit!
The reference we have here is a 2009 update of the iconic Ploprof. Omega took the opportunity to refine a few things, which made this updated Ploprof even better than the original. Minor improvements, such as the font on the bezel and a more balanced use of colours through the matching orange button and orange hand on the dial, surely give the Ploprof an elevated look.
Its 55mm x 48 mm stainless steel case carries a sloping bi-directional bezel that, together with the white dial, ensures the watch's diving capabilities are uncompromising. A tone-on-tone and almost discreet date window is positioned between four and five o'clock markers. Additionally, the rubber strap on this watch is a feature in its own right, bringing resilience and style in equal amounts.
Please note this Omega Seamaster Ploprof 224.32.55.21.04.001 shows light scratches on the case, caseback, and clasp. Its rubber strap, though, is in good condition.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
