Balancing contemporary watchmaking with retro aesthetics, this re-edition of the 1939 Omega classic CK 859 is an absolute winner.
Why we love it
When, in 2022, Omega dropped its CK 859 re-edition under the Specialities line, patrons everywhere were impressed. It references the hit Omega watch from 1939 — CK 859 — with brilliant nods and details that strike a chord with enthusiasts today. At its core, it’s a simple timepiece that calls to mind the signature Calatrava-style aesthetic but is packaged smartly to bring both the new and the old guard onboard.
Its case is made of brushed stainless steel with a polished bezel. It carries a smooth round shape and features a crown embossed with a vintage Omega logo. What is better in this re-edition is the size of the watch; with a 39mm diameter, it settles most effortlessly on the wrist.
The dial casts its hegemony over the watch with an interesting vintage-inspired sector dial. For a solid retro touch, the dial is cast in Ag 925 silver and flaunts blue hands and markings for a visual contrast. The various scales are arranged neatly, with the minute and second tracks sitting at the outermost ring, followed by a secondary track, while the hour markers are placed on the innermost ring. The centre of the dial is furnished with Arabic numeral hour markers, the vintage brand logo and seconds sub-dial at six.
While the original CK 859 was powered by the now-popular 30-T2 manual-winding movement, this reference is contemporary through and through in this regard. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback is the manual-winding Co-Axial calibre 8926, decorated in classic Geneva stripes. Using two barrels, the movement promises a power reserve of 72 hours.
This Omega Specialities 511.12.39.21.99.002 is a limited edition watch in very good pre-owned condition, featuring no scratches and a firm leather strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
