Iconic in more ways than one, this Apollo 8 edition of the celebrated Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon will enchant you here as well as on the other side.
Why we love it
Mesmerising details, a rich legacy, and extraordinary character define this special Omega Speedmaster. Released in 2018 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Apollo 8 mission, this Dark Side of the Moon highlights Omega’s unparalleled watchmaking and craftsmanship. It comes with a case executed in black ceramic, housing a semi-skeletonised dial and a blackened movement visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
Harnessing the excellence and precision of the 1968 mission, one can find a passel of references to the watch’s rich lunar heritage throughout. Starting from the dial, a recreation of the moon’s surface forms the backdrop upon which the fundamental timekeeping elements are based. Sitting in juxtaposition with the skeletonised apertures, the chronograph counters are arranged horizontally. The dynamic use of contrasting yellow across the dial creates a distinctive personality of the watch. A similar design vein is expressed legibly on the tachymeter bezel.
A faithful marriage of form and function, the manual-winding calibre 1869 that’s visible through the caseback is emblazoned with a Moon-relief texture and blackened finish for a cohesive, balanced look. It imparts a power reserve of 48 hours. As a finishing touch, the contours of the caseback are engraved with DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, APOLLO 8, DEC 1968, and WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE - words of Jim Lovell to ground control before Apollo 8 went behind the moon.
This Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 311.92.44.30.01.001 is in overall good condition with a few light nicks on the case. Its leather strap is in satisfactory form.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
