Our verdict? If you like Oris and its ergonomic tool watches, do not think and take the plunge with this Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111. You'll be happy you did it.
Why we love it
This Oris Big Crown ProPilot is a handsome sport watch that punches above its weight thanks to its magnificent finish and the inclusion of Oris's second in-house movement, calibre 111. This calibre is an evolution of its predecessor, the calibre 110, which made its debut in 2014. With the exception of a date complication in 111, both movements exhibit similar components and features.
Calibre 111 is a sophisticated hand-wound movement with a 21,600bph frequency and a whopping 10-day power reserve aided by a single mainspring barrel. Of course, the staggering power reserve capability had to be flaunted on the dial, and Oris did with a twist by featuring a patented non-linear indicator at three o'clock. Subsequently, the movement of the hand while the watch is being wound varies. Through the exhibition caseback, one can view this movement and pour over the finishing and visible parts like the barrel, balance wheel, and bridges to their heart's content.
The dial of this Oris Big Crown ProPilot is anthracite and extremely legible, with the sensibly-placed date aperture and seconds subdial at nine. The hands and notably-sized markers are luminous. Finally, the case clocks in at 44mm in diameter. 100m water-resistant, it also carries the signature knurled bezel and a brushed finish throughout.
This Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 is in excellent condition bearing no visible scratches and a robust leather strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
