This Raymond Weil X Basquiat pays tribute to the artistic brilliance of Jean-Michel Basquiat while combining neo-expressionism with traditional watchmaking.
Why we love it
The Raymond Weil Freelancer Basquiat Special Edition is a bold tribute to the audacity and creativity of the iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. This limited-edition timepiece honours Basquiat's enduring impact on art and culture.
Combining raw neo-expressionism with the precision of traditional watchmaking, this 43.5mm watch brings Basquiat's artistic brilliance to the wrists of collectors and art lovers alike. It is a coveted piece, featuring Basquiat’s distinctive artwork on the exterior and the meticulous craftsmanship of Swiss watchmaking within.
The dial showcases a striking palette of primary colours—red, yellow, and blue—against a black background, ensuring clear readability of all functions. Central to the design is the "Pez Dispenser," Basquiat's crown-wearing dinosaur from his renowned 1984 painting. The crown at the 12 o’clock position is highlighted with a yellow Super-LumiNova embellishment, while the hour hands and indexes are coated in white Super-LumiNova. Moreover, the 30-minute counter depicts three of his core painting themes: life, death, and humanity. The case is rendered in titanium with a ceramic tachymeter bezel. The watch is powered by the automatic RW5030 calibre which generates a reserve of 62 hours.
This Raymond Weil Freelancer Basquiat Special Edition 7780-TIC-JMB01 has minor nicks on the crystal, bezel, and case. The caseback and clasp have scuffs too. The leather strap is in satisfactory form.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
