Stay ready for anything, from discovering mountain tops to nailing boardroom style, with this Rolex Explorer II in an expanded 40mm case featuring impressive aesthetical nuances.
Why we love it
The Rolex Explorer II 16570 is an understated sports watch in a handsome stainless steel case with a valuable dual-time function. A balanced design enhanced by subtle elements renders it highly versatile, thereby making it an ideal everyday partner as well as a reliable travel buddy.
Originally, Explorer was introduced in 1953 as a robust timepiece designed for mountaineers, adventurers, and splenkurs. In 1971, the house launched Explorer II reference 1655 alongside the original version, with a few elemental updates, such as the addition of a 24-bezel with an oversized hand. But it was only in 1985 that the Explorer II became a GMT watch with the newly-updated reference 16550. It came with calibre 3085, which allowed the 24-hand to be set independently. In 1989, this reference was discontinued, and the third-generation Explorer II reference 16570 we have here was introduced.
This watch is sized appropriately at 40mm to fit comfortably on multiple wrists and comes with a fixed bezel featuring 24-hour graduations. The dial is clean, legible, and laid out with luminous hour markers and hands. The date aperture is tucked characteristically at three o’clock, and the bold GMT hand is bright red, popping out against the white dial. With signature scripts, it’s an easy-to-read dial, particularly handy when the wearer is amidst an adventure. The automatic calibre 3185 that powers this Rolex watch is a COSC-certified movement with a 50-hour power reserve.
This Rolex Explorer II is a well-maintained timepiece that bears no scratches or signs of use.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
