Drawing upon the storied heritage of the Heuer stopwatch – the first Swiss watch in space – this limited-edition Carrera represents TAG Heuer’s watchmaking brilliance.
Why we love it
In 1962, Astronaut John Glenn became the first American to orbit the earth. Strapped to his wrist was a Heuer stopwatch – 2915A that became the first Swiss watch in space. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this momentous achievement, TAG Heuer came out with a limited-edition Carrera that truly celebrated the OG stopwatch through telling details.
Before we delve into the magnificence of this elegant piece, it is significant to know that this cool Carrera, akin to the watch that inspired it, went to space. On May 22, 2012, when SpaceX’s Falcon 9 made its first sally into space, along with it went this Carrera.
It is a good-looking, understated TAG Heuer watch designed with a 41mm round steel case featuring a polished finish. Put together with a knurled crown, pushers, and a vintage-looking perforated brown leather strap, this watch takes on a minimalist, elegant look that borrows heavily from the ref. 2915A. The dial is a stark white with notable Arabic numeral minute markers, an outer chapter ring, and shapely hands. While the sub-registers and the date window occupy the 12 and 6 o’clock positions, the 3 and 9 o’clock positions reveal some interesting details. 3 o’clock reads – FIRST SWISS WATCH IN SPACE, and at 9 o’clock, an image of SpaceX Falcon 9 and Dragon sits.
A smoky exhibition case back gives us a view of the popular calibre 1887 residing inside. An automatic movement with approximately 50 hours of power reserve beats at a frequency of 28800 bph.
This TAG Heuer Carrera is piece number 36 from a limited edition of 2012 watches. It is in overall good condition with a case featuring a polished finish and a leather strap that shows some signs of wear.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
