Tudor explores the aesthetical limits of watchmaking by delivering the fan-favourite Black Bay 58 in luscious gold, giving the watch a refreshing and elegant personality.
Why we love it
The release of Tudor Black Bay 58 in 18k gold stunned and awed people from the get-go. Of course, rendering a performance-driven timepiece with a rich maritime legacy into a highly luxurious metal, which makes it slightly dressy, was a bold step on the maison’s part. But rightly so, as this reference M79018V-0001 feels much more than a just gold version of the iconic Black Bay 58. It impresses with more than the sum of its parts and looks stunning on the wrist with an elegant colour palette.
The case is executed wonderfully in a familiar 39mm size with recognisable bells and whistles like the tapered lugs, a knurled unidirectional bezel, and the oversized screw-down crown. The yellow gold construction is the biggest lodestone here, giving the watch an admirable heft. Perhaps for a slightly more ergonomic visage, the entire case carries a satin-brushed finish in lieu of brushed surfaces and polished bevels. However, such a choice also helps deliver more character, visual depth, and an understated luxury aesthetic.
A tasteful pairing of the verdant bezel and dial offers a positively decadent look. Also, it blends harmoniously with the gold case. The round hour markers are cast in yellow gold, as are the Snowflake hands. Also, the ‘gold gilded’ colour used for the text on the dial matches the scale on the bezel, giving a cohesive punctuation to the watch.
Powering this Tudor is the automatic calibre MT5400. It’s a certified COSC chronometer with an accuracy of -2/+4 seconds per day and 70 hours of power reserve. It’s finished exquisitely and visible from the sapphire crystal caseback.
Purchased in 2023, this Tudor Black Bay 58 18k M79018V-0001 boasts very good pre-owned condition and comes with a firm leather strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
