The Inspiring Tale Of Bremont’s Genesis

Euan English, an ex-RAF pilot with a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering, had two great passions — aviation and mechanical timepieces. Wisely, he ensured to brew similar interests in his sons, Nick and Giles English, by teaching them how to fly aircraft and asking them to repair old clocks that he would often bring from auctions. 

In 1995, Nick, a trained pilot by then, was practising an air display with his father when the 1942 WWII Harvard aircraft that they were flying met with an accident, resulting in the untimely demise of Euan. The sudden loss of their beloved father deeply moved the brothers and made them realise the precariousness of life. Subsequently, they resolved to spend the rest of their life doing what they loved the most — creating mechanical devices. 

But their father was not the only inspiration that led to the eventual foundation of this successful British watch brand. Once in late the 1990s, due to inclement weather, Nick and Giles had to make an emergency landing when they were flying across France. A farmer came to the brothers’ aid by not only letting them land on his field but also by keeping the French authorities away by hiding the aircraft in his barn. Touched by his kindness, the brothers decided to return the farmer’s generosity in a way no one would have anticipated. In 2002 when they launched their brand, they christened it after his name, Antoine Bremont.

Bremont Craftsmanship

In pursuit of the highest level of craftsmanship, Bremont creates the case for each of its timepieces using a singular Trip-Trick construction method. As a result, the case of every Bremont watch includes three parts: a robust bezel, a titanium or DLC-treated middle barrel, and a solid or crystal caseback. All the parts are meticulously hand-finished by polishing technicians with 25 years of experience in the jewellery and watches industry.

Further, the sapphire crystal used in Bremont watches is applied with multiple layers of anti-reflective coating on both sides to guarantee seven times more scratch resistance than other watches. The house also undertakes precise measures to ensure most of its models deliver the highest degree of shock and magnetic resistance, allowing the watches to prove reliable companions even in the most extreme situations. The brand lives by the motto — 'tested beyond endurance' and its timepieces, with their robust nature, confidently affirm the same.

Understanding Bremont Watches Through Estemeed Collaborations

Taking into account the founders’ affinity towards aviation, it’s only fitting that the most coveted Bremont models come from its collection of pilot watches. Martin-Baker, a British aviation company that provides fighter ejection seat technology to 70% of the world’s air forces, collaborated with Bremont in 2007. The partnership gave birth to the popular MBI collection, a series of timepieces that share the robustness and efficiency of the Martin-Baker ejection seats. While MBI was a limited edition curated especially for pilots, the MBII and MBIII were offered to all.

In the sphere of pilot watches, another notable collaboration was with Britain’s prominent aeronautical innovator and one of the world’s most celebrated luxury car brands, Rolls-Royce. The house introduced ionBird — a chronometer-rated GMT pilot watch, to celebrate its partnership with Rolls-Royce. Bremont is the official timing partner for Rolls-Royce's all-electric speed record.

Argonaut manifests Bremont’s adeptness in producing military as well as diver watches. Created in partnership with the Ministry of Defence in the UK, Argonaut is an excellent military dive watch whose name is inspired by Greek mythology. The timepiece, with its unparalleled craftsmanship and brilliant functional elements, validates why Bremont is the official partner of Her Majesty’s armed forces.

Other notable Bremont watches born out of significant collaborations include Jaguar C-Type, Jaguar MKII, Jaguar E-type and more, created in association with the luxury vehicle brand, Jaguar. Bremont WR-22 was designed in partnership with Williams Racing, and the limited edition Bremont Hawking was produced in collaboration with the Hawking family to honour Professor Stephen Hawking.
