Zenith celebrates 50 years of its iconic El Primero chronograph with a spot-on remake befittingly called the Revival.
Why we love it
While 1969 was the year that experienced an upheaval caused by the advent of quartz watches, it also saw a bevvy of fascinating releases, including the Zenith El Primero A384. The watch's fast and high-precision movement with a 5Hz escapement, a fully integrated design, and a new column-wheel chronograph movement catapulted Zenith to new heights.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the El Primero movement, Zenith released a recreation of the original 1969 A384, called the A384 Revival. While the movement is an evolved El Primero, the construction and aesthetics are just as fetching and exact as the original, including all its significant details. From the tonneau shape and 37mm size to the panda dial with applied luminous hour markers and the date window between four and five, the Revival is a faithful depiction of the original. However, the only element that stands changed in the reference is the use of sapphire crystal on the front and back.
The watch's sleek, modern, and angular profile is offset by a comfortable leather strap fitted with a steel buckle clasp. A screw-down crown and pump-like pushers add an edge to the overall look, while the tachymeter scale on the dial's periphery elevates functionality.
Beneath the sapphire crystal glass, the El Primero calibre 400 beats at 36,000bph (10 beats per second) and boasts a power reserve of minimum 50 hours.
This Zenith 50th Anniversary El Primero A384 Revival shows fair pre-owned condition with no scratches on the case. It's paired with a firm leather strap.
Provenance
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
Please note all our transactions with sellers are conducted via registered banking channels, accompanied by a signed affidavit, banking proof, and PAN card.
A specific affidavit stating the watch is not a stolen property and that all applicable duties have been paid is also obtained from the seller and is available for buyers in case of legal requirements.
We strive to build trust through transparency and diligence, outlining our verification process and the inherent limitations. Our commitment to integrity shapes every transaction, prioritising your confidence while acknowledging the realities of the pre-owned watch market.
